Seha Nur Sarı

APHRODITE
Watercolour on paper, 30 × 40 cm, 2023
This work marks the beginning of the Aphrodite series, drawing on some of the earliest surviving sculptural representations of the goddess as visual references. Historically associated with beauty, youth, femininity, and desire, Aphrodite enters the series as an inherited ideal of the female form.
By returning to the ancient image before introducing the contemporary interventions explored in the subsequent works, the painting establishes a point of departure: a body once constructed as an image of divine beauty, before that ideal is confronted with the shifting standards of the present.
