Time
Glazed Porcelain, 2013
Golden proportion is known to be used in architectural structures in Ancient Greece, and it is also known to be in the whole body of mankind, and in all over nature. Snail shell and golden proportion spiral are the new representatives of the 'time' concept which was represented by the 'circle' form in the old days. The snail shell, a 'golden proportion spiral', which has been recognized as a continually rotating and repeating 'time' with the development of science, widening with the ever-expanding universe in three dimensions, has become a new form of 'time'.
This work was produced with reference to snail shell as an organic structure. The small forms at the corners of the main form are associated with the fractal subject in the field of mathematics. Fractals are a common name for complex geometric shapes that often show the resemblance to itself. In the expanding location of the 'time' represented by the snail shell, the past and the future are questioned. As a 'human', our common point with other living beings is to wonder about the existence of a 'time rate' perception with a 'golden proportion'. In the work, that is done by bringing each separate units together with golden proportion rectangular measure, deformations occur in the upper regions. With the meaning in the context of mathematics is distorted and interfered with the form similarity, the bond between the fractals is broken. Fractals do not reflect the feature of deformed form. The study was produced by pattern producing technique and porcelain clay was used in the study. After the application of transparent glaze, sooty firing technique was used in some part.
